My name’s David Silbert, and I’m the editor-in-chief of The Punished Backlog.
I founded The Punished Backlog in 2017. Back then, I was a college senior. As I prepared for the scary “newness” of the working world, I decided to channel that anxiety into a lifelong comfort of mine: writing about the games I love.
During my long history with games, I’ve played, covered, and created content across a wide range of platforms and media. From growing up with a Game Boy Color in my hands, to working in college as a freelance news and reviews writer, to teaching myself Java and starting development of my own title, games have always been a part of my life. With The Punished Backlog, I hope to pull from and share these experiences to provide fun and engaging content for you, the reader.
Whenever I have a break during the workweek, I love playing video games. My friends do, too! Together, we hope to bring you a nice mix of current and retro content, whether that’s reviewing recent software and hardware, writing passionate editorial pieces, or looking back on the greatest games ever made. (As a short aside, my favorite game series would have to be Final Fantasy and Zelda, both of which have put out quality games that defined my childhood for the better.)
To keep this brief, The Punished Backlog is a dream gig for me. Games like Journey or Final Fantasy are great not because of fancy tech or lavish budgets. They’re great because they challenge us—to think big, dream bigger, and aspire for greatness. From the corner arcade, to the living room, to stadiums and the global stage, video games continue to break new ground, and I find it humbling to be part of such a fantastic and fast-moving industry.
