A New Look At Rockstar’s Hotly Anticipated Sequel
Rockstar Games just released a brand new story trailer for the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2.
Clocking in at just under 90 seconds, “Official Trailer #2” provides a short but packed look into Red Dead Redemption 2’s world and characters. While there are sure to be plenty of analysis articles and videos popping up in the days to come, take a preliminary look below:
One thing that pops out to me immediately? Much improved facial animation over Grand Theft Auto V. The added power of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One looks to be providing a greater layer of detail when it comes to expression of the eyes, cheeks, and mouth. Rockstar’s efforts continue to move closer and closer to the realism achieved in L.A. Noire, without nearly the amount of hassle created by the 2011 title’s unwieldy mo-cap.
What’s more, we now have clear confirmation that John Marston from the original game is out as the main character. The trailer’s description depicts Red Dead Redemption 2 as “the story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive.” Van der Linde, of course, refers to Dutch van der Linde, one of Marston’s ex-gang mates and eventual assassination targets. As many fans had speculated, Red Dead Redemption 2 will certainly be a sequel; however, we’ll be seeing things through a new, fresh pair of eyes this time around.
The game’s voice acting also seems top notch, although that has come to be expected from Rockstar Games given their track record. And while the studio-publisher remains tight-lipped on new gameplay mechanics and additions, it’s safe to assume that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be full of all the robberies, fist fights, and shoot-outs that made the original Red Dead Redemption such a smash hit.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is on track for a Spring 2018 release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
