Back to the Past
Call of Duty: WWII may be the next entry in the Call of Duty series.
According to an article posted by Charlie Intel (later re-posted on NeoGAF) containing allegedly leaked photos of advertisements marketing the game, the next title in the juggernaut franchise will be subtitled “WWII,” indicating a return to the series’ World War II roots.
As of now, nothing has been officially confirmed in terms of details for the new game, other than the fact that it will release in 2017, be developed by Sledgehammer Games, and “take Call of Duty back to its roots.”
Of course, Activision has yet to respond to these leaks, although if they happen to be accurate, it wouldn’t surprise me to see an official announcement and teaser trailer from the publisher within the next few days. Call of Duty has always been a series that revolves around advertising blitzes in order to drive hype, even months out from release. Past releases have typically been announced during late Q1/early Q2, with E3 in June serving to show off a new gameplay demo and sizzle reel. Each game also tends to adhere to the October/November release window, right in time for the holiday buzz. If there’s ever been a time to draw the curtain on Sledgehammer’s new project, as well as Call of Duty‘s return to the past, now’s as good a time as ever.
