Hot off its bizarro Alarmo announcement, Nintendo has again announced something other than the Switch 2. Nintendo Music (the Big N’s take on Spotify) stealth-launched last week, allowing fans to finally listen to Nintendo soundtracks legally.
As of release, Nintendo Music supports a limited selection of classic Nintendo albums, including:
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Donkey Kong Country
- Fire Emblem
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Metroid Prime
- Pikmin 4
- Star Fox 64
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Super Mario Odyssey
There are some interesting inclusions, such as Nintendogs and Dr. Mario, and plenty of notable omissions (The Wind Waker, anyone? Super Mario Sunshine?). Even with the curious launch selection, though, there’s plenty of Nintendo history to enjoy here.
Where’s the Lo-Fi Beats Playlist?!
Nintendo Music features an array of Spotify-inspired playlists to help drive user engagement. Some, like “Good Night” or “Break Time,” make sense. Others, like a “Bowser” character playlist, seem less beneficial.
One particular playlist you won’t find (at least for now), is a traditional study playlist. A fixture of many a worker or college student, study playlists keep us grounded with their atmospheric instrumentals, soft ballads, and minimal vocals. (There’s a reason we all love lo-fi girl and synthwave boy.)
Sadly, a Nintendo Music study playlist is nowhere to be found. Fortunately for you, dear reader, we’ve done the heavy lifting and assembled some easy recommendations to—literally—plug and play.
